"It's About Time" is a long term project
documenting the lifetimes of a group of women who are
now in their fifties. Life itself is going to provide
all the content for the story line. Health problems,
death of loved ones, retirement, financial issues, disability
and facing their own deaths are some of the many issues
of growing older that they will face as they live their
daily lives. The issues of aging will be shown through
the little happenings, as well as the milestones, that
will occur for each of them over the next twenty, thirty,
or in some cases forty years.
As footage is compiled and edited over several decades,
it will show the creeping dominance of laugh lines and
age spots on faces, and the slowing of gaits in succeeding
years around various dining room tables. The group will
gather for discussions about life changes; the financial
constraints of retirement or the new oppertunities it
provides, moving from present homes into retirement
housing or seeking out alternatives, the mourning over
deaths of loved ones as well as celebration of new family
members.
Documentation in many media will be gathered until
the last member of the group has passed away. Editing
and creation of the piece will begin during thier life,
and culminate afterwards as a cohesive documentary presentation
that will be sponaneous and a true reflection of the
rest of their lives. The footage will not be the static
structure of a research project, but a dynamic account
of these elders showing their story by living thier
lives.
