Thatcher Gray spent his two month birthday in Taos
with a hike amidst bluebells, aster & geranium
alongside auntie eM
As we gaze out west onto the vast desert,
there are swaths of bright yellow
sunflowers & chamisa
glowing under the crisp dry sun.
Thatcher's first change of season sets in
as the leaves on the trees start to turn
and build up to a blaze this fall,
drawn out longer than usual.
His three month birthday we spend in Denver
under a full Hunter's moon.
Rising at dusk and setting at dawn,
we wake to his first snow.
A harvest of vegitables that grandfather grew is prepared
and frozen
in preparation for his first foods.
Seeds of new hope are planted
when Barack Obama wins his historic presidency.
The same day I plant
twin spruce
aside grandmother's house
to grow together
-
as we set out on our journey together.
